Norway essentials

Cash vs card
NOK13.5 to £1
Norwegian krone
  • Norway is about as cashless as anywhere on Earth — cards and contactless work literally everywhere, even mountain cafés and honesty-box farm stalls
  • Some places don't take cash at all; bring a no-foreign-fee travel card and always choose to be charged in NOK, never your home currency (dodge DCC)
  • Vipps is the local mobile-pay but needs a Norwegian bank — skip it; carry ~200–500 NOK only as backup for the odd rural ferry or on-board ticket

Tap water

Tap water is excellent — among the best in the world. Drink it everywhere; don't buy bottled (a bottle runs €4–6). Carry a reusable bottle.

Tipping
Round up or 5–10%

Not expected — service is included. Round up or add ~5–15% on the card terminal for good service; no cash-on-the-table custom.

Driving

Drive on the right. Toll roads run on AutoPASS; fuel and everything else is expensive. Oslo and Bergen are transit-first — a car mainly matters for the fjords.
